A Blissful Life: Member Spotlight Series is a chance for us to connect with women in the Blissful Warriors Facebook community about their wellness journey. These women have an inspiratonal story that led them to their bliss and they want to connect with other women and share their experiences. Please say hello to this month’s member spotlight: Kalin Delfino! I knew Kalin and I would have a special connection when she told me she was a fellow young adult cancer survivor. ?
NOTE: Please read all the way to the end of this post because Kalin has a special offer for members of the Blissful Warriors Facebook Group (It’s free to join – click HERE!).
Welcome! Please introduce yourself (and your business if you have one).
Hi! My name is Kalin. I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist currently practicing at the Shore Rejuvenation Day Spa in Downtown Sarasota, FL.
Tell us: what does blissful living mean to you?
To me, blissful living means being at ease with floating, while also having inspiration to swim. Life is swirling with funky currents!
Do you have a wellness journey that you would like to share to inspire other women?
My wellness journey began at a young age, having been introduced to a lot of alternative health therapies at a young age. By the time I was a teenager, I followed strict diet and exercise regimes, and decided to train to become a massage therapist.
At 24 years old, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently underwent traditional western medicine treatments. Throughout this experience, my perspective of wellness shifted towards a more holistic connection between mind, body, and spirit. I drifted from nit-picking at what I ingested and how my body moved, to becoming more attentive to how things and situations affected the way I felt as a whole; physically, emotionally, mentally.
These days, the routines I use to cultivate personal wellness are based off of simple things that I’ve found that make life and myself feel lighter. I do believe that the the way I spend the first hour or so of my morning after waking up has a huge impact on how I approach and react to the rest of my day, so I schedule time for myself in the mornings. I like to wake up and move. Yoga, squats and push ups, freestyle dancing to hardcore rap… whatever feels good, feels good! Finishing with a few moments of silence and stillness is an absolute to connect me with the calm in my center. I like to sing mantras that are also breath exercises while I’m in the shower, since singing makes me happy and the breath work is another cleansing element to add to my shower experience. Then I like to throw on music while I prepare the rest of myself for the day, whatever is uplifting in the direction that I’m focused on for that day. If I can find myself laughing somewhere in between all of this, I know I’m doing it right. All of this paves the way for me to be as focused, lighthearted, and empowered as I can be in face of the day.
How do you help other women find bliss in their lives (i.e. friends / family members / clients)?
I help my clients to find bliss in their lives by assisting them in the cultivation of more awareness within their bodies, emotions, and thought processes. I try to encourage everyone (especially women) that I come into contact with to accept and enjoy their whole weird and wonderful self, and to laugh and be silly in the middle of the chaos that often is life!
What led you to start your business?
I was inspired to become a massage therapist when I saw how effective intentional touch can be to lift an individual’s mood, and how much a persons’ emotional state effects how their body moves. When I give a massage, I feel as though I’m an artist, the body is my canvas, and I’m working in the medium of the nervous system. Nothing is more fulfilling than a relaxed and smiling client that’s moving more freely than when they came in! Touch and movement can do wonders.
What routines, habits, beliefs, or other things help you live a blissful life?
To stay healthy, I find movement and breathing imperative. My favorite forms of each are yoga, rollerblading, and singing. I have to soak in some nature and art regularly to stay clear-headed and inspired. Spontaneous trips and trying scary things are a must-have at least once a year to keep things fresh!
Just for Fun! What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
My alter ego is a rapper and really, really cool.
Do you have anything special you would like to share with my readers?
Special things I’d like to share with Blissful Warriors are listed as follows: a bottle of wine, a yoga class, a back massage train, a plate of cookies, a basket of kittens, and great quotes like this one: “When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” – Audre Lorde
